Instrument: Cello
Yamilet Trujillo realized her love for music at age seven after singing along with “Barney & Friends” on TV and joining her elementary school chorus. She was also a member of the Orff ensemble before learning to play the violin and piano. After a year she switched to cello, and has stuck with the cello for almost twenty years. She has always had an insatiable curiosity with musical instruments–playing as many notes as she can figure out on harmonica, guitar, ukulele, recorder, clarinet, double bass, viola, water-filled glasses, and recently joined the handbell choir at a local church.
Trujillo is a Dr. Phillips High School alumni, where she was accepted into their Visual & Performing Arts Magnet Program. She later graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a Bachelors in Music Performance and a Master of Arts, studying with Barbara George and Laurel Stanton. She performed with the UCF Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Laszlo Marosi, and was the principal cellist for over 5 years. She has also played with the UCF Chamber Ensemble, String Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and Women’s Chorus.
Locally, Trujillo has played with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Encore! Orchestra, and the Space Coast Pops Orchestra while under the direction of the late Richard Hayman. She has performed alongside guest artists including Carol Stein, Copeland Davis, Valerie Pernice, and many others. She has also played alongside well-known artists/bands such as Jodi Benson, Maná, Kansas and Classic Albums Live. Trujillo also enjoys performing and recording for local bands and artists such as Drive to Uqbar, Ratham Stone, Stockholm, Hoyle, James Roquemore, and Edric Eero, Leo Aether, Casey Conroy, and Nirvanna Tribute.
Trujillo has been teaching for the past 10 years, both in private lessons and in the classroom. She currently teaches Elementary Strings with Orange County Public Schools, and formerly with several music schools, including Sam Ash, Broadway House of Music, and A Gift for Music. She recently became a certified Suzuki instructor and continually strives to be the best teacher for her soon-to-be celebrity students. Her longtime dreams include playing for a movie soundtrack, playing in Carnegie Hall, touring the world, and becoming famous.
Trujillo is a cellist with Violectric and an educator with Violectric Education Programs.
